Socio-Political Empowerment

Overall Objective:
“ Socio-Political Empowerment through improved governance, access to legal services and use of media and CBOs.”
This will be achieved when the following three immediate objectives are achieved:
Immediate Objective 1: Enhance pro-poor governance.
Immediate Objective 2: Poor people can afford and access the legal services.
Immediate Objective 3: Poor people participate in political debates and collective actions.

Right Based Approach
Institution building through social mobilization and CODEC facilitation created a sense of solidarity among the disadvantaged men, women, children and adolescents in the coastal area even the out reach villages who were otherwise inarticulate and struggling hard merely in surviving. As the process of social mobilization has been evolving, these disadvantaged communities begin to assert the right to the coastal and marine resources to which they are entitled. This also enables them to have access to additional resources. This will make them more vigilant and help them to monitor the process and also ensure that the surplus they generate is not dissipated.

This countervailing power is a part of the democratic and human development process, which is ensuring greater equity gradually. This deprived community people have been becoming progressively more aware, further self-reliant. Institution Building through intensive participation of the community people have been evidently exposed as a platform of collective voice and action, which will be directly or indirectly instrument of empowerment. Although there will be certain strategies reinforcing this empowerment towards institutional efforts and success.
