Economic Development Programme
A continuous support of Savings and Credit is required to develop the target people, who has no access to the formal credit market, and who are otherwise subjected to service exploitation of the informal credit market. The seasonal income of target members does not comply with a regular repayment schedule and thus make them vulnerable to informal credit. The purpose of the savings scheme is to encourage the habit of regular saving among the members, to mobilize local resources, to provide safe keeping of member’s money, to earn interest to the members, and to provide security base for loans from the CODEC loan fund. The purpose of the loan fund is to provide target members access to loans for productive purposes (including all sorts of present products and also new products e.g. micro-credit, micro enterprise, Dadan (advance payments as tied loans) Free loan, small rural based industries etc.) on reasonable terms. CODEC will also work especially with Hard-Core Poor members as well as among well-off members with separate terms and conditions.
