Community Development Centre

Since it's establishment in 1985 as a people centered development organization, CODEC has been growing and evolving into efficient and effective non-governmental development organization in the coastal area of Bangladesh. Institutions and institutional processes being central to the vision and mission of CODEC, it is sensitized in people centered development puts people as the major propeller and major recipient of development. CODEC perspective challenges the mainstream concept of development as one of maximizing socio-cultural entity and economic growth, with the fervent hope that its benefits would trickle down to the people and the focal points would be the underprivileged men, women, children and adolescents of coastal communities.

CODEC Annual Planning Workshop: 2011-2012

CODEC along with Royal Danish Embassy organized the planning workshop including the future strategy in two folds; one at Chittagong Training Center (19 to 21 January 2011) and another at Patuakhali Training Center (1 to 3 February 2011). It was the last annual planning workshop of CODEC Five Year Plan (2007-2012). It was successfully completed with the participation of head office and field level personnel as well as representatives of Coordination Committee (CC).

Celebration the Silver Jubilee of CODEC

CODEC arranged its 25 years anniversary on 1 October 2010 at Theater Institute, Chittagong. Mr. Abul Kashem, President of CODEC Executive Committee, presided the programme. Mr. Dr. Md. Afsarul Amin, Honorable Minister of Primary and Mass Education, attended as a chief guest. Mr. Svend Olling, His Excellency the Ambassador of Denmark, attended in the opening ceremony of the festival as a special guest along with others. The honorable ambassador commented as in his concluding speech, “I am very glad to join in CODEC 25 years anniversary. I congratulate CODEC for immense achievement over 25 years. DANIDA helped the CODEC from its inception and hope it will be continued in future.”

CODEC arranged two seminars on 2 October 2010. First seminar was held at 10:00 a.m. on The Struggling of the Coastal Community and Experience of CODEC. Mr. Khursid Alam Ph.D. presented the keynote. Mr. Dr. Iftekharuddin Chowdhury, Professor of Chittagong University, Professor Shyamoli Mazumder, Executive Director of OWDEB, and Mr. M. Habibur Rahman, Director of Save the Children USA were main discussants. Mr. Mahabubul Hoque, Professor of Chittagong University and EC member of CODEC, presided in the seminar. Second seminar was held at 3:00 p.m. on Climate Change and Coastal Communities. Mr. Sujoy Basu, Director, Centre of Energy and Environment Management, Kolkata and Ex-Professor of Jadabpur University, presented the keynote. Mr. Dr. Shahidul Islam, Professor of Dhaka University, Ms. Parveen Mahmud FCA, Deputy Managing Director of PKSF, and Mr. Abul Momen, Poet & Journalist, Resident Editor, Prothom Alo were main discussants. Mr. Dr. Iftekharuddin Chowdhury presided in the seminar. Mr. Kamal Sengupta was moderator in both seminars. Government and non-government officials, journalists, member of civil society, and fishermen from different coastal districts participated in the seminar and festival.

Danish Ambassador paid his farewell visit to CODEC

The Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh, His Excellency Mr. Einar H. Jensen, paid his farewell visit to CODEC Patuakhali office on 8th July 2010. CODEC arranged a farewell ceremony and cultural programme. He appreciated CODEC for its endeavor to protect and promote the lives and livelihoods of underprivileged coastal community of Bangladesh.


Fisherfolk Festival

CODEC organized fisherfolk festival on 8th - 10th January 2010 in Cox’s bazar. Honorable Finance Minister, Mr. A.M.A. Muhit, and Jan Møller Hansen, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Denmark, attended in the opening ceremony of the festival. Member of Parliament (MP), Government and non-government officials, journalists, member of civil society, and fishermen from different coastal districts participated in the festival.
