Historical Perspectives
CODEC has been derived and renovated through series of
development intervention in the coastal area of Bangladesh. It
has been emerging with empirical transformation of Danida Boat
Building Project and Boat Rental Scheme in the period 1975
-1985, which was mainly propelled with technological support and
income enhancement of coastal poor fisher folk communities. The
major learning of these projects was that any technological
intervention should first consider the socio-cultural aspects of
the people in this case of poor coastal fishing communities,
otherwise it would be flatten away. Over the past 20 years,
since it’s establishment in 1985 as a people centered
development organization, CODEC has been growing and evolving
into efficient and effective non-governmental development
organization in the coastal area of Bangladesh especially in the
area of non-formal primary education for the children. |
